Dinner at Orchids at Palm Court in Cincinnati

(download)

We travelled to Cincinnati over the Christmas weekend to visit with Leslie.  While we were there we went out for our annual holiday dinner.  Each year we pick an upscale restaurant and treat ourselves to a savory and pampered evening.  This year we asked Leslie to pick a spot and she chose Orchids at Palm Court.  She did not disappoint.

Orchids is located in a 1930s Art Deco Hotel in downtown Cincinnati.  The decor features high painted ceilings, tiled walls, and impressive columns.  The service at the restaurant was impeccable and the food, as you can see from the photos, was well presented and oh-so-scrumptious.

To give you and idea of the level of service, when we were seated at our table there were, of course, beautifully folded white napkins at every place setting.  As Marcia sat down a server scurried over and replaced her white napkin with a black napkin.  When Marcia asked why this was done the server replied:  "Your clothes are dark and we would not want you to have white lint from our napkins show on your clothes."

And the service continued at that level for the 3+ hours we were at our table. We went the whole nine yards:  First Course, Second Course, Entree, Desert, Drinks before and Wine with.  Yikes!  It was great - but we will be eating rice and beans for the rest of the month to pay this off.
